Busware was founded in 2002 to bring original style “tilts” or canvas canopies to the vintage VW market, after numerous bus truck fans asked where I got mine.   I had a local canvas tent manufacturer duplicate an original double cab canopy(courtesy of Paul Reeves) including OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) German Hardware, & the rest is well, history.

VW originally made the Tilt as a factory option & included the cotton canvas canopy, 2 metal hoops w/ end caps, a center spreader bar for single cabs, & 6 wood bows in the complete tilt package. VW does not make tilts for vintage trucks anymore.

Busware only manufactures the canvas canopy, leaving the hoops & bows to other VW aficionados to make, find or purchase original hoops or bows.(not trying to be the only source for Tilt hardware)

Since the first Double cab canopies came off the production line, there have been numerous generations in improvements to the product to make it closer to the original, fit better, last longer, & resist wear & tear.

We now make canopies & Tonneaus for 5 different model VW Trucks from 1952 single cabs to 1979 Bay window truck single & double cabs, including 1958 & 59 Binz double cabs.  We keep threatening to make canopies for 1980-1991 Vanagon trucks, but have not fully developed that prototype yet.

In addition to the standard original style canopies, we specialize in numerous custom canopies made w/ marine grade acrylic colored fabrics, optional features such as safari windows, different height canopies, leather trim, straps, & grommets,  matching side awnings for trucks, dusty condition truck option canopy modifications, & any other related features you or we can think of!

As of July, 2016 we have made over 450 canopies for VW clients in the USA, England, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Hawaii, Japan, Australia & Canada.
